Our focus here is to reduce our CO2e emissions and help wildlife thrive.
Our drive has come from the question “What do we do with the 5 acres here?” Do we mow it weekly so that it looks nice, at a cost of 23.7 lbs CO2e and a lot of time or let most of it go back to wilderness? Back to Nature

The Long Grass
We have let most of the 5 acres grow wild over the past few years to save on mowing time, CO2e emissions and improve the habitat for insects, birds and small mammals.
We mow the borders and all around the property with electric mower, soon to be solar charged.
What is happening along the road by the mailbox?
We planted a native wildflower pollinator habitat that will help attract insects and birds by providing food that they can eat. The birds probably eat most of the seeds and if they came up, the deer would have munched everything. We would have to fence it in to prevent the deer and this is not what we want to do.
We did build a fenced in area nearer the house and it was a huge success – lots of local insects and birds.
